"Wapose/Wapoose [fl. 1813-1848], Ojibwa Nation, medicine man; he killed 2 men on he St. Clair River in 1813 [he mistook them for American sympathizers]; William Jones, Indian Agent of the Upper St. Clair [Sarnia] reserve notes in his journal, September 17, 1836, that Wapoose wants to let his lot on the St. Clair Reserve, since he occupies a lot on Bear Creek that he prefers; Chief Wauboose signed [with a crane totem], a petition to the Queen in 1838 objecting to the illegal surrender of Indian lands; he lived on the Upper St. Clair Reserve on January 20, 1843; in 1848 Waupoore (sic) received presents from the Indian Department for wounds suffered in the War of 1812..." Theresa Wapoose
Birthdate unknown. Married Batiste (Warsack?), also Indian. She died in Michigan, leaving three children. One was a girl born about 1855 who was raised by either William or Nancy Wapoose. The other two, boys, lived somewhere in Michigan. Theresa died before 1886.
Susan Wapoose
Birthdate unknown. Married James Francis Laviere, also Indian. They moved to Kansas and joined the Kickapoo Band. They had four children: James Laviere, Joseph Laviere, Mary Vandenbloomen, and Maryanne Killbuck. Susan died before 1886.
William Wapoose/William Wahbuck
Birthdate unknown. First wife unknown, no children with her. Second wife Catherine _____, born in Stockholm Sweden on 24 May 1833. No children with her. Catherine died 26 Aug 1889. James Wandahnaquodt (also called James Manass or Manace) was referred to as William's "son-in-law". "David" was William's step-son by his first wife. William died 16 May 1882.
Nancy Wapoose
Birthdate unknown. Foremother of the Bateman, Pitfield and Andre Prue families of Killarney. Had one child before marriage, with John LaForge, named Charles LaForge. First married to Dominique Peladeau/Palado, had two daughters. Second marriage to Louis Recollet, also known as Louis Maville. Nancy was a well-known and well-respected medicine woman at Sarnia Reserve. She died 8 Aug1888. See her will, dated 25 Nov, 1886.
